The time has come and it’s Finals weekend!
France and Croatia will fight to be able to lift that glorious trophy.
And Belgium and England will face off in a game for the 3rd place and pure honour. If the Belgian team wins, it’s the best result ever for Belgium and it will solidify this selection as “the golden generation”.
If the semi-finals taught us anything is that skills and good football don’t guarantee a place in the Finals.
In short, France beat Belgium by a beautiful header, but not that impressive gameplay.
Didier Deschamps is a master at playing chess and the French team executed the strategy to a tee.
England was punished for youthful nonchalant behaviour, where Croatia proved that the prices are given at the finish and not 10 minutes into the game.
Croatia might not have the best team on paper, but it’s a clear example of team spirit and the willingness to fight for the team and each other.
Either way it’s an exciting weekend ahead of us, with two games that can produce historical results.
Imagine Croatia becoming World Champion this Sunday, how would I explain that to my grandchildren within 50 years?
I hope that you’ve enjoyed these World Cup blogs.
It’s been an exciting tournament with major upsets and let’s all enjoy the final games of the event!
Au revoir – Zbogom
